THE FOLIO SOCIETY The Color Purple

We made this craft film with self-taught illustrator Lela Harris explaining her artistic process for illustrating Folio’s new edition of Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize winning novel ‘The Color Purple’.

Harris’s illustrations depict the key characters in Walkers novel and each black-and-white charcoal drawing includes a flash of purple in homage to the books title. During a walk in her local hills we also see the often missed appearance of purple in our natural surroundings.
